Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is provided and managed by NHS

The chartered physiotherapist is responsible for the assessment of pupils. If appropriate a programme will be developed that can be implemented throughout the school day and at home in consultation with everyone involved. Programmes are designed to improve the physical abilities, independent mobility and functional independence of pupils. The therapists and assistants main areas of work include:

  • Providing physiotherapy treatments by involvement with pupils individually, in small groups or class groups.
  • Seating and other specific equipment needs are assessed and monitored and changes made as necessary. The occupational therapist is involved with wheelchair provision in conjunction with the physiotherapist as appropriate.
  • Advice is given on moving, handling and positioning of children, with particular regard to enabling pupils to have the best possible access to learning experiences.
